All these practices established musk firmly as a widely known aphrodisiac.

However, traditional methods of musk extraction from the glands of musk deer, were banned and in 1923, French Maison Houbigant created a perfume which kept all the sensuality of musk with different essential oils intact. This inspired more French perfumers to take up Musk as central theme to different blends of perfumes for its exotic smell.
